We are looking for an experienced professional in wireless system design to join our development team and work with us on implementing the new DECT standard in a state-of-the-art system-on-chip (SoC) ASIC. In this role, you will develop, integrate, and validate the radio transceiver architecture and its interfaces within the SoC—from system requirements through algorithms and simulations to hardware/firmware implementation and silicon validation.

If you combine in-depth knowledge of digital communications and signal processing with practical experience in implementable wireless systems, enjoy working at the intersection of wireless algorithms, RF and analog design, digital design, firmware, and systems engineering, and can independently develop pragmatic solutions, then you’ve come to the right place.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Defining and validating the radio transceiver architecture as well as the associated interfaces within the SoC.
  • Translating wireless and product requirements into PHY/L1 concepts, algorithms, interfaces, and verification plans.
  • Developing, integrating, and verifying signal processing algorithms using MATLAB.
  • Setting up, maintaining, and further developing link-level and system-level simulations for the wireless system, particularly at the PHY/L1 level and, where relevant, via the interface to MAC/L2.
  • Analysis and evaluation of design decisions with regard to performance, implementation complexity, latency, memory requirements, chip area, power consumption, and robustness.
  • Conversion of floating-point algorithms into fixed-point implementations for use in ASIC or FPGA environments.
  • Definition and further development of the hardware/software partitioning between ASIC, firmware, and higher-level software components.
  • Specifying and coordinating interfaces between wireless algorithms, digital hardware, analog/RF blocks, and firmware.
  • Supporting system validation before and after silicon is available, including through simulation, emulation, FPGA prototyping, laboratory testing, and silicon bring-up.
  • Analysis of system-wide failure patterns, as well as identification and isolation of root causes across algorithm, digital hardware, firmware, and RF/analog boundaries.
  • Documentation of algorithms, assumptions, interfaces, simulation results, limitations, and design decisions in a traceable format.
  • Identification, assessment, and resolution of technical risks throughout the entire product development cycle.
  • Development and maintenance of reusable models, test environments, evaluations, and automation tools for simulation and verification.
  • Actively contributing to the design of technical solutions and developing creative and pragmatic approaches to complex system challenges.

Your Profile:

  • A completed degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, microelectronics, computer engineering, computer science, or a comparable qualification.
  • Several years of professional experience in wireless systems engineering, digital communications, signal processing, or a closely related technical field; typically, you have at least five years of relevant professional experience outside of your studies and internships.
  • Demonstrable technical expertise in wireless communication systems and signal processing, as well as the ability to translate communication theory into implementable algorithms and system architecture decisions.
  • Very strong practical experience with MATLAB for algorithm development, integration, simulation, and verification.
  • Very good understanding of modern wireless communication systems, particularly OFDM, as well as at least one other area such as MIMO, cellular systems, WLAN/Wi-Fi, DECT, or comparable broadband wireless systems.
  • Solid theoretical and practical knowledge of digital communications and signal processing, for example in several of the following areas: transmitter/receiver architectures, resampling and filtering, synchronization and timing recovery, parameter estimation, channel modeling and channel estimation, digital front-end design, or channel coding.
  • Experience in the development or technical review of link-level and system-level models, as well as in the critical interpretation of simulation results.
  • You can analyze trade-offs between algorithmic performance, numerical precision, computational complexity, latency, memory requirements, and power consumption, and translate them into sound design decisions.
  • Practical experience with fixed-point design, quantization effects, numerical stability, and implementation constraints in ASIC or FPGA environments.
  • Experience in specifying and coordinating interfaces between algorithms, digital hardware, analog/RF blocks, and firmware.
  • You can analyze system-wide problems in a structured manner and identify root causes across multiple technical domains.
  • Nice-to-have:
    • Experience with modern wireless standards such as DECT NR+, LTE/5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Zigbee.
    • Experience with RAN, PHY/L1, or MAC/L2 software stacks, as well as the interfaces between protocol layers.
    • Experience with the complete development chain for wireless algorithms—from system modeling through fixed-point implementation, FPGA/ASIC implementation, and verification to silicon validation.
    • Programming experience in Python, C, or C++ in addition to MATLAB.
    • Experience with RF, analog, and digital front-end impairments and their compensation, such as ADC/DAC effects, phase noise, IQ imbalance, AGC, synchronization, calibration, and equalization.
    • Experience with encoding and decoding algorithms, such as turbo codes, LLR processing, or comparable forward error correction methods.
    • Experience with system verification spanning simulation, FPGA prototyping, laboratory testing, and silicon bring-up.
    • Experience defining register interfaces, control sequences, diagnostic functions, and calibration concepts for embedded or wireless systems.
    • Experience in developing test strategies, reference models, automated regression tests, or reproducible simulation environments.
    • Experience collaborating with RF, analog, digital, firmware, and systems teams in a semiconductor, ASIC, FPGA, telecommunications, or wireless product environment.
    • Experience in a startup or scale-up environment, as well as a preference for pragmatic decision-making and short development cycles.
