As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.
Location: Regensburg, Germany (on-site at client facility) About the Role
As a Customer Engineer, you will support advanced semiconductor equipment directly at our customer’s site, ensuring performance, reliability, and continuous operation. This role combines hands-on technical work with close customer interaction in a fast-paced, high-tech environment. You will work alongside international engineering teams and play a key role in maintaining production stability.
Responsibilities
Perform installation, start-up, and qualification of complex equipment with a high level of independence
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair system issues to ensure maximum uptime and performance
Respond to production-related incidents and participate in escalation processes in collaboration with global engineering teams
Execute preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and hardware retrofits
Analyze equipment performance and implement improvements to increase availability and reduce operational costs
Follow established procedures, checklists, and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with current standards
Support process-related topics and collaborate closely with customers and internal stakeholders
Maintain strong customer relationships through clear communication and high-quality service delivery
Identify potential risks or dissatisfaction early and initiate corrective actions
Requirements
Degree or vocational training in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
Experience in field service, maintenance, or working with complex technical equipment
Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently in a high-responsibility, customer-facing role
Structured and reliable working style, even under pressure or in dynamic environments
Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical information clearly
Team-oriented mindset with willingness to collaborate across international teams
Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement

YesThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
